Knowledge, Information and Decision

The Knowledge, Information and Decision (KID) department is an umbrella for all  research activities devoted to the use  of data to information extraction  and decision making, in order to extract knowledge from this information as claimed by the Lab-STICC. This generic purpose is come to the five teams  of the division with different aspects according to:

  • Data features, in particular the kind of data used by the different teams, for instance numerical or textual data.
  • The way these date are acquired, e.g. imposed by sensors or defined by the user with the underlying idea of using predefined algorithms.
  • The transmission of this data with the intrinsic challenge of data and information security.
  • And finally the processing of these data, either with or without the supervision of a human being, the second case involving  fast, automatic processing, in particular for safety/security reasons.

DECIDE

DECision aId and knowleDge discovEry

DECIDE's ambition is to supply decision makers with tools to support decisions linked to heterogeneous and complex data. Research activities in the team cover the steps connecting these data to the decision, which involve: problem definition, data collection, quality measuring, information extraction, preferences modelling, proposal of algorithms, and design of decision support systems.
IHSEV

Interaction Human System and Virtual Environment

IHSEV (human system interaction and virtual reality) is a multidisciplinary group of about 70 persons. It includes computer scientists as well as psychologists and robotics. It works on the adaptation of systems to human from the studies of their interactions.It develops simulation models, artifical intelligence embedded in virtual reality or robotic platforms and experimental studies.
IRIS (old name SFIIS)

securIty and Resilience of Information Systems

This team addresses security issues related with information systems. It addresses as well information acquisition, storage, sharing and processing steps, with a focus on Cloud driven use cases and critical systems. Our application scope goes from civil to military contexts, and concerns security properties as confidentiality, privacy, integrity and reliability of the information.
TOMS

Treatments, Observation and Statistical Methods

The TOMS team is made up of 18 permanent membres, 27 PhD students and 10 engineers or postdocs, from ENSTA Bretagne, ENIB and Télécom Bretagne. They contribute to methodological aspects on statistics for images and signals. The main field of application is the monitoring of the Ocean using satellites and passive acoustic. They are also interested in telecommunications and physiological signals.
PRASYS

Perception, Robotics, Autonomous SYStems

With about 15 permanent researchers and as many PhD students, PRASYS is a new team concerned by the Perception, Robotics and the Autonomous SYStems. The main topic is the development of algorithms dedicated to autonomous mobile robots and the perception of their environment. As such, action-perception mecanisms are carefully studied, specifically in unknown and unstructured environments.
